Basic PrinciplesNFP is based on the nature of human fertility. § Pregnancy is possible only for a brief time during the menstrual cycle. § NFP identifies the fertile days. The basic concept of Natural Family Planning XE "Natural Family Planning" is simple. It is based on the nature of human fertility. § A man is always fertile. § A woman is only fertile during the ovulation phase of her menstrual cycle. § Pregnancy is possible only during this brief time of fertility. § During the other phases, it is not. § Thus, there are only certain days when a woman can get pregnant. NFP methods simply identify the fertile days. § Married couples who, for serious reasons, decide to delay childbirth, choose to abstain from sexual relations during the days of the wife’s fertile period. § Couples trying to conceive will time sexual intercourse to coincide with the wife’s fertile time.
